Job Description

We are looking for a skilled and compassionate Forensic Nurse to join our healthcare team. As a Forensic Nurse, you will play a crucial role in bridging the gap between healthcare and the legal system by providing specialized care for victims of violence, trauma, and abuse while collecting medical evidence for legal proceedings. The ideal candidate should have strong clinical expertise, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of forensic procedures and legal processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Medical Examination & Evidence Collection: Conduct thorough medical evaluations, collect forensic evidence (e.g., DNA samples, photographic documentation of injuries), and maintain proper chain of custody for legal use.
  • Victim Care & Crisis Intervention: Provide compassionate care to victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse, elder abuse, and other traumatic incidents.
  • Collaboration with Law Enforcement: Work closely with law enforcement officers, attorneys, and legal teams to provide expert testimony and detailed forensic reports.
  • Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Duties: If certified, conduct forensic exams for sexual assault survivors, including specialized forensic interviews and documentation.
  • Courtroom Testimony: Serve as an expert witness when required, presenting forensic medical findings in court proceedings.
  • Medical Documentation: Ensure accurate and detailed documentation of forensic cases while maintaining patient confidentiality and legal integrity.
  • Education & Advocacy: Educate victims about their medical and legal options and advocate for their rights in healthcare and legal systems.
  • Collaboration with Multidisciplinary Teams: Work alongside healthcare providers, law enforcement, social workers, and legal professionals to ensure holistic care for victims.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Registered Nurse (RN) degree with additional forensic nursing certification preferred (e.g., Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner [SANE] certification).
  • Licensure: Must be a licensed RN in the practicing region.
  • Experience: Experience in forensic nursing, emergency nursing, trauma care, or related fields is highly desirable.
  • Skills:
    • Strong clinical and forensic assessment skills
    • Attention to detail and ability to handle sensitive cases with empathy
    • Knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to forensic nursing
    • Excellent communication and documentation skills
